Brains Brewery: Proud Supporters of the SIBA Indie Beer Campaign
As an independent brewery rooted in Wales, Brains Brewery is proud to support the SIBA Indie Beer Campaign, which champions the integrity of truly independent craft and cask beer across the UK.
What is the Indie Beer Campaign?
The Indie Beer Campaign by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) aims to make the Indie Beer mark a nationally recognized standard for high-quality, independently brewed beer. Whether you enjoy craft ales, lagers, or cask beers, the Indie Beer mark identifies beers that are brewed by independent breweries, ensuring quality and authenticity.
Why the Indie Beer Campaign Matters
According to YouGov research, 75% of consumers feel misled when purchasing beer from brands that once were independent, like Beavertown and Camden, which are now owned by global giants such as Heineken, Coors, Asahi, and Budweiser. In fact, 81% of beer drinkers surveyed believe it's essential to know whether a beer brand is truly independent. Surprisingly, 40% of people mistakenly think Beavertown Neck Oil is independent, more than actual independent breweries like Vocation, Fyne Ales, and Five Points.
Who’s Behind the Indie Beer Campaign?
The Indie Beer Campaign is a cross-industry initiative launched by SIBA with the backing of key industry voices, including CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), the Independent Family Brewers of Britain, and popular beer media such as Pellicle Magazine. This collaborative effort aims to safeguard and promote the legacy of truly independent British breweries.
How You Can Support the Indie Beer Movement
Supporting the Indie Beer Campaign is easy. Look for the Indie Beer mark on pump clips, labels, and bottle caps when choosing your next pint. Many pubs and taprooms also display Indie Beer posters or window stickers. You can also use the Brewery Checker tool at www.indiebeer.uk to verify if your chosen beer is independent or owned by a global company.
Let’s raise a glass to independent beer and ensure our local breweries can continue to thrive for generations to come. Cheers to Indie Bee
